So it seems as though the transition is done… Carleigh still has one maybe two small accidents a day, usually caused by playing then realizing too late she has to go and a little comes out. It’s just enough to warrant a change of underwear, but she wakes up from naps dry and at night if I am diligent about her going just before bed and right when she wakes up. I think the biggest hurdle is spending a few days at home to help aid the transition otherwise she would have been trained 6months ago. 🙂

So yesterday was day three and I kept waiting to update because we had been accident free all day long!!! Then I put Carleigh in bed and about 5minutes later she got up and announced that she had pooped. O well… The day was accident free. Day four she woke up wet, but I think the overnight training will take some time. As a reward for doing so well yesterday I took Carleigh to Kohls and let her pick out one package of big girl underwear – she chose the princess underwear. Since we got home she has been wearing her big girl panties and still no accidents I think the worst really wasn’t that bad in the transition, though I am sure she will have her days. I had to take the box of diapers out of her room because at the end of yesterday she was asking to be put in a diaper, otherwise I still can’t believe how well she is doing.

So yesterday was day two of potty training. Carleigh had no accidents until about 4pm when after doing so well all day I gave in and let her put on big girl underwear as a reward. Bad idea. She ended up pooping in them shortly after… I must be strong with no diapers or underwear for a few days so she isn’t encouraged to just go. After that she only had a very small accident which she held and went to the toilet after realizing. So I guess it was a good day in all and I will just keep trying 🙂

Two posts in one day, amazing I know, but really this deserved its own thread so here it goes…
Potty training with Carleigh has been an on and off thing for some time now so I decided to dedicate this week to getting her trained for good. Mat and I have been talking to Carleigh about peeing on the potty and reading books about it for months now but had never taken the time to dedicate days to making the actual switch. After all – diapers are easier when going out.
After visiting with my Uncles Gary and Gary I learned that they had used Julie Felloms “Diaper Free Toddlers Program” and when we got home I started my search online. I am attempting to do the three day program with some twists to it to cater to Carleigh.
Here is a list of my key points:
- while at home for three days we take away all diapers
- we put a small trainer toilet in the living room where we spend most of the day so she doesn’t have to leave her toys to pee
- we made a special song and dance to sing when she makes it to the potty
- for the first three days I am giving her ample juice and water to make her pee more often
- if she doesn’t make the toilet I have a stack of rags and cleaner so that she can help clean it up
- I couldn’t stay in the house ALL day like the system asks, so when we did go out I made sure it was just after her going potty and we wouldn’t stay out for more than an hour, and even then she wore big girl panties
- when she poos on the potty we have a special reward of fairy sparkles to spray on her arms (thanks tink!)
- I know the night time will still be hard so just before she goes to bed she will wear a diaper and first thing in the morning she goes on the potty and no more diapers for the day
Day one was much better than expected. I had to put the toilet paper up high so Luke wouldn’t get to it, but Carleigh only had two accidents (very small) and even was ok going to the bathroom at Jason’s House when we went to visit him. I will keep updates as to her progress.

So the picture a week failed miserably at some point I just ended up forgetting about it. A lot has happened since my last post and we are beginning to embark on new roads…
Carleigh and Luke are growing like weeds. Luke is already at the brink in his 12month sized clothes and fits comfortably in most 18 month sized stuff. He now has six teeth, the last four all came in at the same time (no fun) and he is standing up on his own and will try taking several steps unassisted… I am sure it won’t be long until he just takes off. Carleigh is finally starting to outgrow her 2T clothes at least in the tops, her shorts and pants are perfect for the time being. She now also sings her alphabet and can count to 14.
A few weeks ago Mat and I took the kiddos to the Zoo for the umpteenth time and it is amazing to see the changes in the kids actions. Carleigh now likes to find the animals in their exhibits and count them while Luke is now showing interest in the animals (at least the brightly colored ones).
In any case, I plan on writing a bit more about the kids, if nothing else, to be able to go back later and re-live their developments.
